LA Overview - Week of April 4, 2011

7-3 LA Overview

Announcements:
  • Optional: I-Search revisions are due by April 5th. You must resubmit the original graded paper and rubric.
  • Book report presentations are due April 11th.

Monday:
  • Lesson: What is story telling? Introduce characteristics of Oral Traditions.
  • Vocabulary homework (definitions and original sentences*) is due Wednesday.
*This is the correct homework assignment. The hard copy indicates definitions only which is an error.

Tuesday: Begin Oral Traditions unit. Read “Icarus and Daedalus” (pages 916-920) and “Demeter and Persephone” (pages 924-930) and complete the following questions: page 920 (The Big Question) and page 921 (Literary Analysis-Myth #3 and #4) AND page 930 (The Big Question) and page 930 (Literary Analysis-Myth #3 and #4). Due Wednesday if not finished in class.

Wednesday: Discuss literature book homework. Collect vocabulary lesson. In class: Begin reading and discussion of “Popocatepetl and Ixtlacchihuatl.”

Thursday: Finish reading and discussion. Review vocabulary words. WW

Friday: Review requirements for oral presentation/book report. Vocabulary Quiz. WW








8-3 LA Overview

Announcements:

  • Pay attention to local and national news. Also, consider problems (locally or globally) that need solving or common views that you think need changing. Come in with these ideas by 4/5, so we can begin your next writing assignment.
  • Bring grammar textbooks to class every day until further notice.

Monday: In class-grammar lesson on varying sentence length.

Tuesday: Collect topic ideas. Grammar lesson-fragments and run-ons. Homework started in class and due Wednesday. WW.

Wednesday: Collect grammar homework. Assign editorial (due April 14th). Optional: a typed first draft for peer/teacher editing is due Tuesday, April 12th. Today, I will have COWs available so students may begin researching or drafting, as needed.

Thursday: Assign independent novel. The genre is your choice. The novel should be checked in by April 13th. Book report format will be assigned next week.
Review grammar homework (fragments and run-ons). In class-lesson on misplaced modifiers.

Friday: Finish lesson on misplaced modifiers. WW.
