WRITING WORKSHOP 3rd TRIMESTER – FINAL DRAFT

Students,
Many of you have been working hard, exploring your self-selected topics or experimenting with new genres. We will now end this trimester with you selecting which of the pieces you really want to revise and submit as a final copy.

The requirements are listed below. If your writing piece does not match one of the ones below, please don’t hesitate to meet with me and discuss modifications to these expectations. (Example: You have been writing a play and you are sure on the length.)

DUE DATE: BY MONDAY, MAY 17, 2010
TOTAL POINTS: 40

Here are some things to consider:
  • There will not be a chance to revise (to raise your grade) once this is submitted. Many of you have already flagged your work for me to edit so this shouldn’t be a problem.
  • Last day to “flag” an entry for this trimester is MAY 12TH. Make sure you have followed the procedure of self-editing and/or peer-editing (in colored pen) before you flag for teacher edit.
Choose one:

NARRATIVE (FICTIONAL-any genre-OR PERSONAL)
  • Minimum two typed double-spaced pages (standard 12 font)
  • Include elements of narrative writing (plot, imagery, character/characterization, etc..)
  • Include a title page with proper heading
P.S. Those of you who are working on lengthy, ongoing stories and submitted the first installation last trimester may submit the second installation of your story. Be sure to make it clear that this story has been and/or will be continued, and also find an interesting way to end for now. Keep reader curious but not dissatisfied with an abrupt ending.

POETRY COLLECTION:
  • Minimum 5 poems (must be taken from your WW notebook)
  • 10 lines minimum per poem [OR YOU MAY INCREASE NUMBER OF POEMS AS LONG AS NUMBER OF LINES IS EQUIVALENT TO ABOVE)
  • Include sensory details, effective line breaks, proper punctuation effective rhythm.
  • Each poem must have a title.
  • Each poem should be on its own page
  • Include a title page with proper heading
