LA SYLLABUS - WEEK OF MARCH 15

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
  • Return report card envelopes with parent signature to your advisor.
  • Extra credit (ethnic festival essay) due by March 18th.
  • Study session for prepositional phrase post-test is Friday @ 8:15. Be on time.
  • Continue reading your novel. Book report is due April 7th.
  • There will be no retakes on vocabulary quizzes for 3rd trimester.

Monday:
  • Return vocabulary quiz #4
  • In-class: Read and discuss “Life Without Gravity” by Robert Zimmerman.

Tuesday:
Return prepositional phrases pre-test. When I am not working with your group, you will do your Writing Workshop entry for today.

If your score is a 29 – 32, please note the following:
  • You are exempt from the post-test. If you lost any points, you have the option to do “rewrites” and attach to your pre-test in order to get a perfect score.
  • Homework: Read page 170 (gerunds). Do page 171, exercise A only and 607 exercise 1 only. Due Wednesday.

If your score is a 26 – 28, please note the following:
  • You will be exempt from the post-test IF you do rewrites. Attach the rewrites to your pre-test.
  • Homework: Review pages 152-153 and 155-156. Do pages 606 exercise 1 and 2. Due Wednesday.

If your score is a 25 or lower, please note the following;
  • The post-test is this Friday. I will keep the higher of the two scores.
  • Homework: Review pages 152-153 and 155-156. Do pages 606 exercise 1 and 2. Due Wednesday.

Wednesday:
Grammar homework is due today. When I am not working with your group, you will read independently “The Eternal Frontier” by Louis L’Amour and “All Together Now” by Barbara Jordan. Be ready to discuss tomorrow.

Thursday:
  • Mini-lesson [fact vs. opinion and persuasive writing]. With a partner, apply this lesson to essays read in class yesterday. Discuss results with whole class.
  • Review for tomorrow’s post-test.

Friday:
  • Prepositional phrases post-test
  • Writing Workshop [Note: students will have the option to do SSR after 15 minutes of WW, so bring your novels today.]
