- Winter conferences are coming up. Conference information/signup sheets will be going home with students on Tuesday, January 19th. Please return signup sheets as soon as possible to the teacher listed on your form.
- A copy of Flowers for Algernon (FFA) and a student packet were distributed last week. Bring novel and packet to class every day.
- Writing Celebration Contest (optional) – Entry is due by January 19th.
- Advisory: The Chicago Coalition for the homeless needs your help. They are in desperate need of blankets (both old and new) for their many shelters. There will be a blanket drive between January 11 – January 21st. The advisory with the most blankets will win a pizza party.
- Penny Drive sponsored by Student Council begins January 21st. The rules will be discussed in advisory. Money raised will go to relief effort in Haiti.

- Quiz on pages 1 – 48 of FFA. Finish our discussion on intelligence from last Friday and discuss the first section of the novel.
- Extended 6th and 7th period: Writing Workshop
- SSR
- Teacher-student conference regarding graded expository essays. These essays will be shared with parents at portfolio conferences. Students will have the opportunity to revise their papers to improve their writing and raise their scores.
- Extended 6th and 7th period: Writing Workshop
- Quiz on pages 49 – 82 of FFA. Discuss this section of novel.
- Extended 1st and 2nd period: Writing Workshop
Friday:
- In-class: Do pages 5-6 (vocabulary exercise in FFA packet). Correct and review words.
