Science Fiction Expository Essay

Requirements:
• Essays must be typed, double-spaced, and in standard size 12 font
• Include proper heading, option #, and creative title.
• Avoid use of 1st person point of view.
• Be sure to have adequate support to support your thesis statement
• Essay should be minimum 5 paragraphs (50 points)
• Outline is required (10 points)
• Proofread carefully
• Use notes (handout) on how to properly organize essay.

Period 6 and 7: Tuesday, January 12, 2009
Period 1 and 2: Friday January 15, 2009

Total Points: 60

Choose one of the following options:

Option A
Imagine what the world would be like if time travel were possible. How could time travel change history? Choose one famous American in history. Pretend he/she has the opportunity to travel back or into the future. In what time do you think he/she would travel and why? What changes might this person make once they complete their travel?

Option B
Consider the possibility if all of your schooling could be done at home with a computer (as demonstrated in “The Fun They Had” by Isaac Asimov. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages for you as a student of strictly online education?

Option C
Consider the technological advances in the house shown in the story “There Will Come Soft Rains.” Imagine if you lived in such a house. Write an essay explaining what would be the effects (positive and/or negative) of living in a house that was programmed to do many routine tasks.

Option D.
Great advances in communication have brought the nations of our world closer together in the last few decades. These advances have brought together positive effects as well as some challenges. Consider how advances in communication could help or hinder world peace.
