Language Arts Syllabus - Week of January 26

Announcements:
  • No study session this week.
  • You should be in the process of reading your self-selected science fiction or fantasy novel. The book report is due February 11th. Students who selected the Design-Your-Own option: your written proposal is due by February 2nd.
  • Students in my 2nd core extension rotation: I will be returning your persuasive essays on Tuesday, 1/20. You may revise to improve your writing and raise your grade by Friday, January 30th. You must resubmit all previous drafts and the rubric.
  • I am still in the process of grading your writing workshop notebooks. Please do not remove from class crate until further notice.

Monday: Institute Day

Tuesday:
In-class: Read and discuss “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury.

Wednesday:
  • Distribute and discuss requirements for the writing assignment options (essay on science fiction topics). This is due by Wednesday, February 4th. Begin outlining and drafting your ideas.
  • 3rd period only: Watch TZ episode of “The Monsters are due on Maple Street.”

Thursday:
  • Return ISAT practice extended response from last week. Review results and discuss goals for improvement for next extended response.
  • Pre-Test on prepositions / prepositional phrases. For students who wish to review prior to pre-test, read pages 152-156 in red book.

Friday:
  • Read “Desertion” by Clifford D. Simak and be ready to discuss on Monday.
  • Writing Workshop
