LANGUAGE ARTS SYLLABUS- WEEK OF 1/20
Announcements: - Progress reports and conference information went home last Friday with students. Please return conference forms to the teacher listed on your sheet. If you were absent last Friday, please see sign outside my door.
- Retake for vocabulary quiz #9 is this Friday @ 8:30 A.M. Remember-the highest you can get on this retake is a 17/20 or B.
- No study session this week.
- Students were asked to find and get approval of a science fiction or fantasy novel of their choice by Tuesday, 1/20. The book report format will be distributed this week and the due date is by February 11, 2009. A copy will also be posted on my blog.
- 3rd Core Extension rotation begins on 1/20.
- DO NOT REMOVE FROM CLASS YOUR WRITING WORKSHOP NOTEBOOKS THIS WEEK. Starting Wednesday, 1/21 I will be doing notebook checks and grading for completion.

Tuesday: - Distribute and explain book report options for science fiction and fantasy genre.
- Writing Workshop (I will also give you a chance to make sure your notebooks are organized for the notebook check)
- Homework for Thursday: Read “Lose Now, Pay Later” by Carol Farley (pages 576-572) and “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury (pages 489-494). Write clear, detailed (2-4 sentences per question) for the following questions: [page 573 #2, 3, 4 and page 495 #4, 5, 6).
Wednesday: - Lesson: Strategies for effected extended response
- Give reading prompt and extended response question. Bring your novel in case you finish early. These will graded and returned early next week.
Thursday: - Discuss stories assigned for homework. Collect responses.
- Writing Workshop
Friday: - Watch Twilight Zone episodes and discuss filming techniques used to create suspense and fear. Compare television version for script read in class last week.
