LANGUAGE ARTS SYLLABUS - WEEK OF 12/8

Announcements:
  • 1st trimester report cards go home this Friday.
  • Retake opportunity for Week 6 vocabulary is Tuesday @ 3:30 P.M. Only students who completed last week’s homework are invited to attend. The highest one can earn on a retake is a B or 17/20.
  • Study session is this Friday @ 8:20 A.M. Focus: Review for Vocabulary #7 quiz.
  • My Advisory: Monetary donations are due Monday, 12/8 for our Adopt-A-Family program. All wrapped, labeled gifts are due for our family by Thursday, 12/11. Let me know by Wednesday if you will not be brining your gift wrapped so I can get enough wrapping paper.

Monday:
  • Return vocabulary quiz #6.
  • Check in novels for approval by today. Genre was student choice. Students who checked in their novels on time will receive a copy of the book report assignment options.
  • Purge LA folder of last trimester work (except for major assignments which should already be in yellow folder).
  • Vocabulary Lesson #7 (words from this week’s literature). Homework: Write a definition for each word. Then do one of the following: A) Use each word in an original sentence or B) Use all words in an original story of minimum 200 words. Underline each word as you use it. Due Wednesday.

Tuesday:
  • Add to Section 3 notes: Rhyming Conversation
  • Writing Workshop

Wednesday:
  • Collect vocabulary homework.
  • In-class: Read these folk tales “Waters of Gold,” “The Force of Luck,” and “Lazy Peter and the Three-Cornered Hat.” Fill out handout on lessons. If not finished, this is homework.
  • If finished early, read your self-selected novel.

Thursday:
  • Discussion of yesterday’s folk tales and “The People Could Fly” from last week.
  • Return vocabulary homework. Review for tomorrow’s quiz.

Friday:
  • Vocabulary Quiz #7
  • Writing Workshop
