- Book report grades will be added to online gradebook by Tuesday.
- Students who borrowed classroom novels for book reports need to return them to me.
- Progress reports go home on October 10th.
- No new vocabulary lesson this week. No study session this Friday.
- PJMS Coat Drive runs from 10/14 – 11/14. Bring in any clean and used coats to your advisor.
- This is the last week of Core Extension for 1st trimester. Health begins next week, and students will receive a new schedule to follow by the end of this week.
- Optional: Revision of creative writing (lit-based) assignment is due Monday, 10/6. Remember you must submit the original draft and the rubric along with your new and improved draft.
- Grammar post-test in LA Core Extension for students who are not exempt . (See last week’s grades on “Practice and Apply” and handout that explains differentiated outcomes for this week.)
Monday
- There will not be an independent novel assigned for October. Instead, this month we will study a class novel entitled Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. Novels and reading requirements will be distributed this Thursday. Students who have read the novel before and do not wish to reread it have the option of taking a test on Tuesday to prove mastery of the novel. They will still be asked to participate in discussion of this novel and offering their insight, but they will have the option of working on an independent novel and alternate assignments.
- Period 4 only: Correct run-ons and fragments exercise from last week.
- Period 3,7,8: Students will choose one or more of the following for the remainder of class: Check to see if you writer’s notebook is up-to-date, share writing with peer, or check out posted writing.
Tuesday:
- Return graded book reports, file in yellow folder, and conference with me regarding book report grade, if needed.
- Writing Workshop
Wednesday :
- Mini-lesson: Sensory details (imagery). Review handout and file in Section III of notebook for future reference.

Thursday:
- Distribute novels and packet with reading requirements, due dates, and vocabulary. Take good care of your assigned novel, bring novel and packet to class every day, and make a note of the due dates in your student planner. In order to enjoy our discussions, it is imperative that students come prepared on quiz/discussion dates. First quiz is Tuesday, October 14th on Chapters 1-11 or pages 1-69). Due dates and requirements will also be posted on my blog.
