Announcements:
  • Vocabulary Quiz #1 retake opportunity is scheduled for Wednesday, 9/10 during lunch. Students who scored a C or lower can earn up to a 17/20 (B) on retake. It is required that you first have completed the vocabulary assignment. See me for a pass if you need to pick up your hot lunch first.
  • Continue reading your self-selected realistic fiction novel. Book report format was distributed last week. This is also posted on my blog. Book Report due date: by Wednesday, 10/1.
  • Bring your novel to Core Extension on Friday for SSR (silent sustained reading).
  • Study session is scheduled for this Friday @ 8:15 A.M. Focus: Extra review of literary terms for vocabulary quiz #2.
  • Curriculum Night is 9/18.

Monday:
  • Return graded vocabulary quiz #1.
  • Finish organization of Writing Workshop spiral notebook.

  • Begin your first Writing Workshop entry.

Wednesday:
  • Collect and review vocabulary homework.
  • In-class: Read and discuss “Thank you, M’am” by Langston Hughes.
  • Homework: Read “What I Want to be When I Grow Up” by Martha Brooks. Due Friday (pages 321-327)

Thursday:
  • Mini-lesson: Similes and Metaphors
  • Writing Workshop

Friday:
  • Finish discussion of “What I Want to Be When I Grow Up”
  • Vocabulary Quiz #2
