LANGUAGE ARTS SYLLABUS - APRIL 14 - 18, 2008


Announcements:

  • Book report is due Wednesday, 4/16. Please adhere to the details for the book report option you have selected. The format is also available on my blog.
  • No formal study session this week. However, I am available on Friday morning for any students who wish to come in early for extra help. You must see me for a pass.
  • Remember: This trimester there are no retake opportunities for vocabulary quizzes.
  • Bring blue (literature) books every day.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • Vocabulary Quiz #10 (based on last week’s list and homework)
  • Extended 7th period: Finish discussion of “The Arrow and the Lamp.”
  • Extended 6 and 7: Correct Wacky Words exercise.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Distribute spelling bee list. Round 1: Classroom Spelling Bee in 2 weeks.
  • Introduce folk tales. Read and discuss in class “The Forces of Luck.”
  • Extended 1 and 2: Read and discuss in class “How Odin Lost His Eye.”

Wednesday:

  • Journal
  • Book report is due today.
  • Read and discuss in class “Waters of Gold.”
  • Period 7 only: Read and discuss “How Odin Lost His Eye.”

Thursday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Review rules for internal citations and Works Consulted Page.
  • Return rough drafts and outlines of expository essays with teacher feedback. Review format for final draft. The final copy is due Friday, 4/25. You must resubmit the rough draft and outline.
  • Extended 6th and 7th period: Read and discuss “The People Could Fly” and “Lazy Peter and the Three-Cornered Hat.”

Friday:

  • 1st and 2nd period: Read and discuss “The People Could Fly” and Lazy Peter and the Three-Cornered Hat.”
  • All: Introduce fables and proverbs. Read and discuss fables.
  • Remainder of class: See me for help on expository essays or study for spelling bee.
