LANGUAGE ARTS SYLLABUS - WEEK OF MARCH 31

WELCOME BACK!

Announcements:

  • Report card envelopes should be returned with parent signatures.
  • 7th grade honor roll breakfast is on 4/10 at 8:00 A.M.
  • Students should be in the process of reading their self-selected novels. Many students still have not checked in their novels for approval. Book report is due 4/16, and the format is also posted on my blog (see above).
  • Study session is this Friday @ 8:15. See me for a pass if you want to review for the prepositional phrases post-test.
  • SSR – Wednesday. Bring reading materials.
  • Bring grammar (red) books on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • Return prepositional phrases pre-test. Make corrections , and use this as a study guide. Assign grammar homework (based on pre-test score). Students who earned an A on the pre-test will be exempt from Friday’s post-test. Grammar homework is due Wednesday.
  • Extended 6th and 7th period: Share humorous creative writing pieces (written before spring break) entitled “A Conversation With…” Keep this piece in your journal folder.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Review prepositions.
  • Mini-lesson: Expository Writing.
  • Extended 1st and 2nd period: Share more humorous creative writing pieces (written before spring break) entitled “A Conversation With…” Keep this piece in your journal folder.


Wednesday:
  • Journal
  • Prepositional phrases homework is due today. Correct and review for Friday’s test. Please bring your novels to class today so you may read when I am not working with your group.

Thursday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Distribute expository writing options. Begin working on outline.
  • Extended 6th and 7th period: Review notes on attention-getters (handout) and begin working on introductions.

Friday:

  • Prepositional phrases post-test
  • Continue working on expository essay outline and begin rough draft (both are due by Wednesday, 4/9).
  • Extended 1st and 2nd period: Review notes on attention-getters (handout) and begin working on introductions.
