LANGUAGE ARTS SYLLABUS - WEEK OF MARCH 10, 2008

Announcements:
  • Official online gradebook update is 3/10 by 3:30 P.M.
  • 2nd trimester ends 3/14 and report cards go home 3/20
  • ISAT make ups are this week for students who missed any sessions last week.
  • My advisory: Remember to give me your minimum $5.00 by Tuesday so I may purchase groceries for PADS lunches. We are scheduled to make 48 lunches this Thursday.
  • Friday @ 8:15: There is no formal study session scheduled; however, if you want a place to read or work, see me for a pass ahead of time.
  • Due to missing class copies, you will be asked to bring your textbooks to class when needed. This week bring your red book (Language Network) to class every day starting Tuesday, 3/11.

Monday:
  • Journal
  • 1st and 2nd period only: Responses to “Flowers for Algernon” are due today.
  • 6th and 7th period only:
    • Mini-lesson on prepositions
    • Review for Wednesday’s vocabulary quiz on The Giver. Again, here are the 20 words I announced last week that would be the focus of your matching quiz:

    • Distribute Ethnic Festival Essay Contest topic. Work on draft. Final typed copy is due Tuesday, 3/18.
  • 6th and 7th period: Final novel assignment based on The Giver is due today. Collect novels and wrap up discussion.

Wednesday
  • Journal
  • All classes: Lesson on prepositional phrases. Assign grammar homework: pg. 606 ex. 1 and 2. Due Thursday.
  • 6th and 7th period: The Giver vocabulary quiz

Thursday:
  • LA Trivia
All classes:
  • Correct pg. 606 from grammar book.
  • Distribute information regarding next book report assignment. Find a novel by 3/19 that is written by a woman or an African-American author. Any genre is acceptable. Book report is due 4/16.
  • 6th and 7th period only:
  • Distribute Ethnic Festival Essay Contest topic. Work on draft. Final typed copy is due Tuesday, 3/18.

Friday:
  • Update reading list in standards folder.
  • Review diagramming rules to date and introduce rules for diagramming prepositional phrases.
