SYLLABUS - WEEK OF DECEMBER 17, 2007

Announcements:
  • There are still report card envelopes that have not been returned signed to advisory teachers. Please make sure you do so by Tuesday. Report cards went home on Friday, 12/7.
  • Study session is rescheduled for Thursday after school to help prepare for the capitalization post-test. (3:40 – 4:15)
  • The schedule will be adjusted this week. See below and pay attention to signs on locker bays for changes.
  • Please return overdue borrowed classroom novels.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • Return capitalization pre-tests. Grammar homework has been differentiated based on your pre-test score. Please complete tasks that are meant to meet your needs. See handout for details. Grammar homework for all students is due Thursday. Grammar post-test for students who scored a B or lower is scheduled for Friday.
  • Begin grammar homework or see me for help with persuasive essay revisions.
  • Extended 6th and 7th period only: Share alphabet stories.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Persuasive essay final drafts are due today. Remember to resubmit rough draft and outline with new draft. All requirements are on original handout, which is also posted on my blog.
  • Share essays and complete peer review.
  • Extended 1st and 2nd period: Distribute information regarding Writing Celebration (District 97 writing contest, which is optional and can earn students extra credit). For remainder of class, brainstorm ideas for Writing Celebration, if interested and/or complete “Student Pick-Novel Recommendation” form.

Wednesday:

  • Journal
  • In-class: Read and complete responses for narrative entitled “Boy: Tales of Childhood” by Roald Dahl. Be prepared to discuss on Thursday.
  • Extended 1st and 2nd period: LA enrichment activity.

Thursday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Review grammar homework (due today) .
  • Extended 6th and 7th period: Distribute information regarding Writing Celebration (District 97 writing contest, which is optional and can earn students extra credit). For remainder of class, brainstorm ideas for Writing Celebration, if interested and/or complete “Student Pick-Novel Recommendation” form.

Friday:

  • A.M.: We will meet with all 4 core classes in the morning (for shortened periods). Start with 1st period. Grammar Post-Test on capitalization and accordion poem activity.
  • P.M. : Movie in auditorium.
