Announcements:

  • Used Coat Drive – If you have a clean, used coat that you would like to donate to this community service project, please give to your advisory teacher by December 1, 2007.
  • Pennies for Pearl Harbor continues.
  • Study session – Friday @ 8:15 A.M. See me for a pass if you want to come in to review for the novel vocabulary test. Please bring your vocabulary homework.
  • Final novel assignments are due by Wednesday, 11/7. See the requirements on the handout given to you in class. A copy of the each novel’s options will be posted by Monday evening on my blog.
  • I will be collecting novels this Wednesday. Please return your assigned novel.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • Return vocabulary homework. Study for Friday’s vocabulary test.
  • Distribute and review “Writing Basics.” Keep this booklet along with the “Research Basics” I gave you last week in a safe place. Use as needed and bring to class on requested days.
  • Update novel list in standards folder.

Extended 6th and 7th:

  • Read and discuss allegory “Revolutionary Tea.” Other key terms: alliteration and bias.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Distribute new book report assignment. The genre for this month is student choice. Keep book report assignment in a safe place, and check in your novel for approval by next Monday.
  • Read and discuss “Exploring the Titanic” by Robert Ballard.

Wednesday:

  • Journal
  • Final novel assignment is due today. Present (if you did “speech” option) and share other products with peers.
  • Finish reading and discussion of “Exploring the Titanic.”

Thursday:

  • Trivia Game (review for tomorrow’s vocabulary test). Winning team will get extra credit on the test.

Extended 6th and 7th:

  • Read and discuss excerpt “Immigrant Kids” by Russell Freedman.

Friday:

  • Vocabulary Test (words from novel)

Extended 1st and 2nd period:

  • Read and discuss excerpt “Immigrant Kids” by Russell Freedman.
