Announcements:

  • Progress reports went home with students last Friday. Please return with parent signature to your conference teacher.
  • Due to portfolio conferences this week, the study session is cancelled.
  • I will be checking your classroom folders this week. Make sure Journals 1 – 10 are present in folders, as well as the 2 literature-based, creative writing pieces you should have completed last week. Reminders: folders are to remain in the classroom in proper crate.
  • Due to conferences on 10/18, there will be noon dismissals for students on Thursday and Friday. On Friday, Student Council is having a read-in/pajama day. Bring something to read on that day as we will spend part of core time participating in this activity.
  • Last day for health is this Friday. On Thursday and Friday, I will give you your new schedule that starts next week.
  • Pennies for Pearl Harbor continues.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • Grammar homework (run-ons and fragments) is due today. Homework varied depending on pre-test score. Correct and collect. Study pages 25 & 26 in grammar book for Wednesday’s post-test.
  • Share creative writing.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Share with students grades for personal narratives (due last Friday). This piece will be inserted in your portfolio. After your conference, you have two choices:

1) Return the narrative and rubric to your yellow classroom folder.

2) Revise the narrative and resubmit all previous drafts and rubric by Wed, 10/24 (OPTIONAL)

  • Walk Two Moons activity (in-class)

Wednesday:

  • Journal
  • Grammar Post-Test (run-ons and fragments). Students who earned an A on pre-test will be exempt.
  • Distribute novels for historical fiction unit. We will be reading My Brother Sam is Dead and Johnny Tremain (students made their choices last week). Bring novels and handouts to class every day. I will also distribute the following handouts:

1) Reading and writing requirement with due dates for literature circle work.

2) Vocabulary packet (due 11/2)

. First due date for reading/response journal is Monday, 10/22

Thursday (only periods 1, 2, 8, 5)

· Distribute new schedules and explain new bell schedule starting next week.

· Work on novel assignment.

Friday (only period 6, 7, 3, and read-in period)

· Distribute new schedules and explain new bell schedule starting next week.

· Work on novel assignment.
