Announcements:

  • Did you lose your copy of the syllabus? Need a copy of the book report or personal narrative assignment? I’ve started a blog where I’ll be posting this useful information. See address on top of syllabus where you can access this information any time. You can also click on “web” under my staff picture on district web page (www.op97.org)
  • Retake – Vocabulary Quiz #4 is Friday @ 8:30 A.M. See me for a pass.
  • The annual Young Author’s Conference is Saturday, October 27th. See me for a flyer if you are interested.
  • Pennies for Pearl Harbor – Bring in your pennies for this community service project which is also an advisory competition.
  • Progress reports go home October 12, 2007
  • Portfolio conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 18th. See me if you do not know which core teacher is running your conference. Sign up sheets went home with parents at Curriculum Night or were sent home in an envelope with students of parents who were unable to attend.
  • Due to an assembly on Friday, the afternoon classes will be shortened.
  • September Trivia Winners: Pick up prizes before you go to lunch.

Monday:

  • Journal
  • No new vocabulary list this week. Return vocabulary quiz #4.
  • Finish discussion of “The Medicine Bag.”
  • Mini-lesson: Replacing linking verbs with stronger, more descriptive verbs.

Tuesday:

  • LA Trivia
  • Book report is due today. Students who are required to present will do so today.
  • Finish verb lesson from Monday. Please apply this lesson to your personal narrative when you revise.

Wednesday:

  • Journal
  • Return rough drafts of personal narratives. We will review requirements for final draft. This will be due BY Friday, October 12th. You must resubmit your rough draft and outline/observation chart. Begin revision today and see me for help.

Thursday:

  • LA Trivia
  • In-class creative writing assignment. Select two of the “Quickwrite” options based on recent literature. These are to remain in your classroom folder, and we will be sharing next week.

Friday:

  • Continue working on in-class creative writing assignment. This is not homework.
  • Opportunity to conference with me regarding personal narrative.
